From June 2025 all our indoor furniture and full textile assortment will be produced without PFAS also known as forever chemicals.
Have you ever thought about how your furniture, might affect you? The textiles on your sofa, the paint on your chair, even the coating on your shelves can contain PFAS—often called “forever chemicals” made to resist stains, water, and wear.
The problem? These chemicals can affect you. PFAS chemicals don’t break down, they accumulate over time in our bodies and the environment, posing significant long-term health risks. At Muuto, we believe durability should never come at the cost of well-being. That’s why we’re rethinking what our designs are made of—right down to the invisible details.
So what is Muuto doing about PFAS?
We began the work to phase out PFAS in fall 2022—well ahead of regulations around the globe. Our first step was understanding the scope of PFAS in our materials. From there, we worked closely with suppliers and sub-suppliers, all the way down the chain to material producers.
Regulations are now catching up. In the US, several states have introduced PFAS restrictions, targeting textiles in upholstered furniture from January 2025. In the EU, a broad ban is in motion, with a proposal expected earliest in 2026 and exemptions for essential uses still being defined.
While our products already comply with or surpass these global regulations, we believe true progress means setting new benchmarks—not just meeting existing ones. That’s why we continue to raise the bar for responsible design and material innovation.
Well-being starts at home
At Muuto, we believe that sustainability demands proof. Guided by comprehensive data and documentation, we take an evidence-based approach, measuring the real impact our products and operations have on people and the environment. This is how we hold ourselves accountable — moving beyond assumptions to take impactful action.
