Please attach your design proposal as a PDF - maximum file size 20Mb. Your design proposal should clearly articulate the design process and contain the following:
— High-quality photographs capturing the essence of your design.
— Context visualizations showing the use of the product.
— Considerations about the design's scalability.
— A video presentation of your design concept.
— Images of models or samples showcasing the physical embodiment of your design.
— Ideas regarding packaging and presentation.

The contest focuses on small home furniture and accessories that blend form and function. We seek designs that offer new perspectives on accessories for hallways, living rooms, dining rooms, offices, and more. These are not items to be hidden away but cherished as beautiful objects in themselves. Your proposal should complement the Muuto universe and our current assortment, creating functional yet sculptural pieces that enhance any room.
The Muuto Design Contest aims to provide a platform for designers to showcase their unique creations and ideas while fostering a new outlook within our organization. We want to challenge ourselves, remain updated on the latest design trends, and collaborate with designers from around the world.
For the Muuto Design Contest, we seek proposals that reimagine accessories for various rooms.
We define accessories and small furniture as items that complement a room's atmosphere. They are functional yet sculptural, adding aesthetic value to a space. Examples include vases, rugs, organizers, stools, coat stands, and side tables.
Your design should also harmonize with the Muuto universe and our current designs and assortment.
We do not accept admissions that fall under the lighting category.
12 October 2024: Deadline for design submission.
November 2024: All finalists will be contacted, marking the start-up of the production of showpieces to be exhibited during 3daysofdesign 2025.
June 2025: The official announcement of the finalists and winners will happen during 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen.
Muuto will bear all costs associated with producing the showpieces to be exhibited at 3daysofdesign 2025.
A jury composed of Muuto’s Design Team and external experts from the design and creative industries will choose the winners and finalists.
The Jury will emphasize registrations that embrace a contemporary approach, encouraging contestants to experiment with natural materials, forms, craftsmanship, functionality, and durability while challenging the status quo with innovative reinvention.
You may enter multiple submissions. However, the applications should be separated, meaning you cannot accumulate both applications into one application.
We welcome submissions from collaborative teams, including studios or collectives of two or more individuals.
The jury will focus solely on the specific design proposal you are sending. This contest is open to all creative minds. We're looking forward to seeing the unique ideas each participant brings to the table!
Muuto’s core is organic, soft shapes, so it’s important to keep that in mind in your proposal, but we're not rigid. Jamie Wolfond's Set Lamp proves we can embrace new ideas while honoring our DNA. This is why we have included an external jury: to keep us exploring, discussing, and growing.
Packaging is an important consideration for accessories. We appreciate well-designed boxes that enhance the unboxing experience while minimizing materials. Your idea should balance attractive presentation with efficient packaging for safe delivery.
2-minute max, pitch-style. Content is flexible - show a model, discuss your process, or highlight key concepts. We want to hear directly from you. It's the perfect way to quickly convey your vision and passion.

We're curious about future production potential, but your initial concept is key. Keep your initial proposal clear and focused.
You maintain all intellectual property rights to your design proposal until we may agree otherwise. We request that you do not submit the proposal for other design contests.
If you become the 1st prize winner, and the product gets into production, we will offer you a design contract.
We will keep your design proposal confidential, and only Muuto’s Design Team and the Internal and External Jury will receive information about the proposal. Likewise, we request that you keep the design proposal confidential.
If you become a prize winner, we will publish your design proposal as part of our marketing.
You may withdraw from the competition at any time until the winners have been announced. If you withdraw, we will delete and destroy your design proposal.
