CRAFTING
HIGH-QUALITY
DESIGN

At Muuto, we place the highest importance on creating high-quality products. To ensure this, continuous testing is at the heart of our design and development process. We source our raw materials with the greatest care and view sustainability as an integral part of our Scandinavian design ethos.

As part of our Scandinavian heritage, we place extensive emphasis on craftsmanship while valuing the functional, long-lasting properties of our designs. Our suppliers have been selected with the utmost consideration with only those living up to our high standards being handpicked to work with Muuto. The majority of our textiles, used for upholstery, are certified with the EU ecolabel. We test the strength and stability of our furniture to the highest of industry standards while also working to keep up with relevant national standards, e.g. in accordance with the British standard BS 5852 and the California Technical Bulletin 117E as well as many of our lamps being UL-certified.

OUR SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY

Our ambition is to add new perspectives to the heritage of Scandinavian design—something that often prompts us to work with innovative materials that lessen our impact on the environment. Take the Restore Basket and Under The Bell Pendant Lamp, both made using recycled PET bottle fibers. Or our Fiber Chair Family, created in an innovative composite with up to 25% wood fibers, reducing the amount of virgin plastic used. Being a Scandinavian design company, wood appears in many of our designs with oak, beech, pine and ash being the most common types, all of them being sorts that are non-endangered, sourced from sustainably managed forests. Our products are designed to last which in itself eases their impact on the environment.

We view responsible manufacturing processes as integral to our design philosophy. We work to ensure that all our manufacturers are socially responsible and operate with the highest of ethical standards. Our manufacturers and suppliers adhere to the United Nations principles of human rights, anticorruption and non-use of child labor, as outlined in the United Nations Global Compact.

YOUR
GUARANTEE
OF HIGH-QUALITY
PRODUCTS

To ensure that our designs have a high durability that will allow for them to be used for many years into the future, extensive testing is at the heart of our development process alongside producing in accordance with ethical guidelines and environmental requirements. As an integral part of this, most of the furniture within the Muuto collection has passed extensive testing within the areas of strength and stability across various levels of the ANSI/BIFMA and EN-tests. As part of the aim to create products with lessened impact on the environment, Muuto also participates in Declare with an extensive selection of furniture being Living Building Challenge Compliant. Adding to that, a number of furniture designs are Global GreenTag GreenRate Level C-certified. You can read more about the standards of the Danish Technological Institute that we adhere to here.

At DTI, our furniture is tested in accordance with the latest European and international standards and regulations.
