The Linear Steel Series brings new perspectives to modern outdoor furniture through its straight lines alongside the folded edges, halfcircular intersecting legs and small spacing for easy removal of water.
Wanting to delve into the story behind our first-ever outdoor furniture, we visited the Copenhagen studio of designer Thomas Bentzen to speak about how the Linear Steel Series adds new perspectives to modern outdoor furniture, his ideas behind the design and more.
Introduced as the first-ever outdoor furniture from Muuto, the Linear Steel Series came from the idea of reinterpreting traditional wooden furniture into the outdoors: "I was very much inspired by oak wood tables for this design, translating their simplicity and attention-to-detail into the outdoors," comments Bentzen.
"Outdoor furniture is a very social thing; you meet, you sit down and enjoy the company that you're in over a meal, collaborate when at work or just taking a break during the day," says designer Thomas Bentzen, walking around his Copenhagen studio.
Speaking on his ideas for the design, Bentzen remarks: "The Linear Steel Series was designed from the idea of presenting durable materials in a sophisticated and understated expression for outdoor use with its form language inspired by the notion of meetings—the meetings of lines, the meetings of shapes and the meetings of materials.”
“The design is defined by its straight lines for a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic through the details of its folded edges, half-circular intersecting legs and small spacing for easy outflow of water. It is through these subtle elements that the Linear Steel Series translates the values of elegance, longevity and functionality into modern outdoor furniture,” Bentzen ends.
